1101 16th Street NW Renovation, Washington DC

1101 16th Street NW was a one of a kind project. At a prime location in NW Washington DC, Akridge developed and designed a stunning building that combined two existing adjacent structures into one monumental office building along the historic 16th Street Corridor downtown. The construction operations included selective demolition of the buildings facades and roof, reshoring and restoring the garages, and the addition of a new steel structure on the roof to extend the height of the building.

Due to the nature of renovating two existing structures to become one, there were many challenges faced. First and foremost the buildings were constructed during different decades, so the elevation of the floor slabs were not level to each other. Another key factor associated with this was the in and out of the structures themselves in relation to the facades. Each elevation of the building had different conditions for anchoring the new facades back to the slabs. This requires a number of structural modifications at the slab edges.

As the Project Manager for this job, I was responsible for pre-construction activities, financial tracking, and overall management responsibility for the project. From face-to-face client relations to Contractor interactions and supervision, 1101 16th Street was my project to lead to success.
